Solution

The 11th Department with its partners seek to build an education platform that offers online courses to Haitian students. Courses will be prepared by educators with teaching experience in the Diaspora and in Haiti for pre-school to higher education. Most courses at the lower level may be provided free or at affordable prices to students living in Haiti.

The platform will be supported by Founding Members, the Diaspora, student fees, and other contributions.

Project Outline

• TimlX LLC will cover some of the initial funding to begin the development of the platform.
• Hosting/maintenance will be $25 a month for the first year. Funds will be raised to cover this ongoing expense.
• TimlX will license its technology for the development of the site and cover expenses above the minimal costs of $1,200 required to complete the site. TimlX will provide ongoing development, technical support, hosting and maintenance for the education platform.
• The 11th Department will promote the project on its website to help attract educators and financial support from the Diaspora and other sources.
• Educators will develop courses for interactive online access and will be recognized for their contributions.
• Efforts will be made to attract nonprofit organizations with an education mission to contribute part of the funding and be recognized on the platform.
• Generate revenue to compensate educators and cover administrative and IT costs for long-term sustainability.
• Develop partnerships with education institutions and others to help provide access to classrooms, equipment, and the Internet.
• Provide training assistance to help educators create online content

Project Starting Point 

The project can be started with a small budget to help cover the costs below. Ongoing monthly expenses are indicated for items that require them. Internet Access Points may not be necessary to start. Mobile Apps important to reach a larger student population who may not have a laptop or desktop computer.
